Theoretically, it may seem that more democracy can only be a good thing. But as this fine analysis by The Economist shows, that is not the case. People’s representative add value. They are needed to better consider trade-offs in policy choices, and to balance the outsize influence of vested interests. (Also, someone has to decide which referendums to hold, when, and with what language, right?)  Here’s The Economist
